The Wega Ariba Wiel Mobiel (WAW – Mobiel) is a community program developed by CEDE ARUBA – BARiO UNiCO to make; sports, play and learning activities more accessible to children in neighborhoods across Aruba. IBiSA later joined the project to provide expertise in sports and recreation, while FCCA supports neighborhood selection, community engagement, and family participation). Korps Politie Aruba (KPA) also joined the project to ensure the security of not only the kids and youth participating in the program but also to ensure the security of the instructors.
WAW mobiel's regular program runs from March to June/July and from August/September to December and is currently offering its services to the neighborhoods; Bushiri, Sero Patrishi, Lago Heights and Village. WAW Mobiel counts with around 1000 to 1200 participant's total. Together with partners and sponsors, WAW Mobiel creates closing events for the kids and youth that participate throughout the program.
Closing events vary from movie watching to friendly matches with KPA, to a WAW day with Sint and Piet, a day for friendly basketball matches, days mixed with sports, entertainment and fun activities for kids and youth. Some extra events were created for days such as international rights of children day, on this day CEDE ARUBA – BARIO UNICO together with its partners IBiSA, FCCA and KPA, made sure to remind all kids of their rights, while giving them small bags filled with pamphlets, information and snacks (sponsorships from: El Louvre Witec, UNHCR, CEDE ARUBA).
